Seed Water Absorption, Germination, Emergence and Seedling Phenotypic Characterization of the Common Bean Landraces Differing in Seed Size and Color

چکیده
Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the most widespread legume in Croatia and its production based on landraces of great morphological diversity. Landraces morphologically differ seed coat color size. Because plant emergence crop establishment represent sensitive stage development, aim this study was to determine whether size Croatian common affect water absorption rate, germination, phenotypic characteristics seedlings. In seeds four with different size, ‘Biser’ (white-colored, small-seeded), ‘Bijeli’ large-seeded), ‘Kornja?a’ (dark-colored, small-seeded) ‘Trešnjevac’ large-seeded) were evaluated three experiments: (i) uptake, (ii) germination (iii) seedling characterization. The results show that white-colored have a higher rate release more electrolytes compared dark-colored similar (and weight). smaller germinate faster large seeds. On other hand, landrace took longest time emerge, probably due cell damage occurred during fast initial absorption. Using multispectral imaging, chlorophyll fluorescence imaging stomatal conductance analysis, seedlings large-seeded found contain photosynthetic pigments light contrast, lower transpiration photochemical efficiency (despite possible germination). Results suggest could survive better under unfavorable soil conditions without absorbing water, swelling, or molding than Despite all this, remain popular human diets are often grown small-scale farms.

A large body of research has documented the effect of seed priming ongermination, emergence and crop yield. In such research, seed priming has beenfound to have a positive, negative or no effect. Meta-analysis can help tosummarize and interpret a collection of experiments. The aim of this study was toconduct a meta-analysis to synthesize published data from studies addressing theeffect of seed ...

The physiological process of germination depends on several environmental factors such as temperature, water potential, light, nutrients and smoke. Water and temperature are determinant factors for seed germination. Both factors can, separately or jointly, affect the germination percentage and germination rate. The effect of temperature on germination and water potential on germination canoften...

متن کاملItalian Common Bean Landraces: History, Genetic Diversity and Seed Quality
The long tradition of common bean cultivation in Italy has allowed the evolution of many landraces adapted to restricted areas. Nowadays, in response to market demands, old landraces are gradually being replaced by improved cultivars. However, landraces still survive in marginal areas of several Italian regions. Most of them appear severely endangered with risk of extinction due to the advanced...
متن کاملFactors affecting Campsis radicans seed germination and seedling emergence
Krishna N. Reddy Southern Weed Science Research Unit, USDA-ARS, P.O. Box 350, Stoneville, MS 38776 The effects of environmental factors on germination and emergence of Campsis radicans seeds were examined in laboratory and greenhouse experiments. Campsis radicans pods produced numerous, papery, and small seeds (696 seeds/pod; 4 mg/seed). Seeds exhibited dormancy that was relieved (74% germinati...
